Temperature Sender:

Operation:

Holden Cars with Temperature Gauges use a Temperature Sender that contains a Resistor. When the Engine is cold the Resistor has a high value so only a small current flows through it.This means the Gauge Needle doesn't move very much. When the Engine is hot the Resistor has a low value so a large current flows through it.This means the Gauge Needle moves a great deal.

Readings:

At 52 deg C the Sender should be 282 ohms
At 60 deg C the Sender should be 217 +-36 ohms
At 100 deg C the Sender should be 67 +- 11 ohms
At 123 deg C the Sender should be 40 ohms

Red Engines:

When the Temperature Sender is used on a red Engine, it is screwed into an Adapter as the Photos show.

Blue or Black Engines:

When the Temperature Sender is used on a blue or black Engine, it is screwed directly into the Block as the Photos show.

Temperature Switch:

Note that Holden Cars that have only a Dash temperature Light and no Gauge use a Temperature Switch instead of a Temperature Sender.
