Dedicated LPG fuel guage.
Submitted by Droobs on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 08:44.G'day,
Am about to turn GREEN with the HJ, apparently it would be a big job to have the LPG fuel sender hooked up the the original dash guage. Anyone done this? I don't really want to have the led lights under my radio and a dash fuel guage not working.
Cheers,

Clubed v full QLD rego
Submitted by hrmadness on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 07:42.Hi all, Just looking for thoughts regarding club rego....
The HR is getting closer to completion and we've been thinking of joining a car club and putting the car on club rego to save a few bux.
Ive done little reserch on the subject other than what we have to do to join our club of choice (costs etc) and the fact I cant drive it for more than 15kms without a good reason. (in QLD anyway... are the other states the same??)
Anyhoo, whats the pro's and cons of this sort of action?? (one could be saving $500 on rego?? Another could be to get informed of/invited to club runs?? OR the FACT that I cant get to maccas from here on a friday night without doing more than 15k's?)
Whats your thoughts Australia??

Fuel tank modifications HELP!!!
Submitted by Jamus_hz308 on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 07:41.Hi all, I have recently bought a tonner with some serios mods, one of which is the fuel tank.
A surge well has been welded into it and it seems to be a professional looking job. It has the fuel pickup line (1/2in.) out the bottom of this.
I'm not sure if this is legal.
Does anyone have any ideas???. Thanks.

Are 308 head gasketsok for 253?
Submitted by ChOpPs on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 06:22.I got some 308 head gaskets for my 253 by mistake (same part number?). i did a bit of reading and found that some people have used 308 gaskets and it just lowers the compression a little bit. I'm not worried about loosing a little compression cos I'm gonna be running turbos anyways, what I'm worried about is the sharp edges this exposes where the block meets the heads. Could this course detonation problems? they are felpro style gaskets and i'm gonna be running around 6psi from the two gt17's.
Any help would be much appreciated.
GTS Clocks and another thing
Submitted by one_tunna_lova on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 06:21.Ok first. Over the weekend im going to look at a HJ-HZ GTS dash i might buy of someone i know at a fairly reasonable price ($300). Still expensive, but cheaper than ive seen alot go for. The good thing about buying this one over one of ebay is i can inspect it first to be sure of what im buying, and i know the person im buying from is very generous and will throw in all the wiring and bits no worries.
The thing is the clock doesn't work, are these easy to fix? ive seen on holdenpeadia how to fix kingswood electric clocks by replacing blown capacitors or whatever, which shouldn't be much of a drama for me, but are the GTS clocks electric (as in fixable in the same way as kingswood clocks).
how much would a clock expert charge to fix one if i cant?

Wanted, HT or HG automatic crossmember
Submitted by stepto and son on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 04:11.A mate is looking for a crossmember to suit a hg subframe.
The original has been cut and bent on the drivers side, and he would rather source a replacement then to bother spending the time repairing.
Im shure its required to suit a trimatic, his going to use a hq floor shifter.
His located in marybough vic, but works in stawell., so pickup needs to be reasonable, unless seller is willing to post
Also his questions,...car was original coloum auto, and his wondering on how to change the safty switch to suit the floor change?
Some crossmenbers his showed me photos of,. have extra slots where the gearbox rubber mounts go, Is there a special reason for the slots?

Swapping seats
Submitted by HT Prem on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 03:41.G'Day,
I have a 1970 HG Prem 308 which I am restoring and was in two minds about the front seats. At the moment it has the factory blue bench seat with the fold down centre. Could do with a full retrim or otherwise just the top part needs repair.
I am thinking about hunting down a pair of buckets to replace them with.
Is anybody interested in swapping or do you think that the bench seat is a more desirable option.
Pls let me know what you think.

EH Standard 179M replacement shocks.
Submitted by Mightyrollaman on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 00:25.I'm looking at replacing the shock absorbers on my mint, original EH Standard 179M Wagon, but am concerned about losing her authentic feel.
The shocks on her would be 20+ years old and have always given a waterbed-esque ride.
Can anyone recommend a replacement shock unit that will not compromise her originality?
I'm not worried at all about colours etc, as I can easily repaint them matte black.
What have the concourse restorers used?

Disc-rear conversion
Submitted by HZ_Canary on Fri, 03/07/2009 - 00:07.I have a burning question.....
I am wishing to covert my 1979 HZ Kingswood SL Wagon, 202 automatic, LSD, Drum brake rear to a disc brake rear, preferably with a taller ratio (currently 3.36.... i'd like to go either 3.08 or 2.78 as i do 98% highway driving).
How would i go about doing this? Do any work guides exists for such a modification?
I would also be keen to hear from anyone who has upgraded drums to discs on the rear of a EH special sedan and/or changed to a taller diff ratio. (a future mod for my weekender.... but will be second priority to the HZ)

Pink Sandman
Submitted by QLDfireman on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 23:31.I'm toying with the idea of doing a Sandy replica on my HZ ute for my daughter's 21st birthday present.
She has mentioned a few times that if she had an oldholden it would have to be pink.
So, the question for you lot is to come up with a Sandman stripe combination to suit a pink base. Any ideas?
Engine "Ping" issues
Submitted by Navigator on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 23:10.Well, it looks like I have fixed the "Ping" issues with the 3.3 EFI motor. It was horrible with next to no power and when you took off it would "Rattle" like crazy. I was getting around 19lt/100 km fuel consumption (Thats right 19 litres consumed to 100 Km travelled)
I replaced the spark plugs, just standard champion plugs from Repco, and now the "Pinging" and "Rattling" has completely gone. I have full power back and my fuel consumption has dropped to a more conservative 13 Lt/100 Km.
Retracted.
Submitted by daves59 on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 22:20.This problem had nothing to do with oldholden. I have a depressive illness and I completly over reacted. The matter is being sorted by a third party. I hope I havan't made a nong out of myself. sorry, regards Dave.
Analogue to Digital Instrument cluster
Submitted by Navigator on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 22:10.Does anyone have any instructions or information for changing the Analogue Instrument cluster to a Digital Instrument cluster for the VK Commodore?
Do I need to change the wiring loom to match the connectors for the Digital Instrument cluster and do I need to change or add any other system sensors?

Caulking Compound - non tube type
Submitted by 1ARC on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 21:59.I have been trying to find a caulking compound which is non type type/gun applied. Many wears ago when I was in the trade, there was a caulking compound that came in a jar and was shaped and moldered by hand and then applied. This made it easy to apply and not messy.
Every one I have tried to buy from has said that the only caulking compound available comes in a tube and seams to be silicone based.
Does anyone know of such a product?
