Talk:Acrylic Vs 2 Pak
From Holdenpaedia
Holdens dosnt and never has used 2 pak they did change around vn - vs when the new paint shop was built from acrylic to baked enamel and are currently looking at changing to a water based enamel as used in europe and the usa. when making repairs or touch ups the only thing to use is 2 pak because the process can not be replicated without a 3 billion dollar paint shop as holdens have....worked there as a fitter for 12 years
I can accept the general "all old paint was crap" tone, but it brings to mind a somewhat off-topic topic someone might be able to supply details for. In the late 60's Toyota was using unbelievably thick, durable white paint (e.g. the '68 Crown) that I can remember seeing in relatively original condition decades later, after most other contemporary paint had flaked off. Anybody know what sort of paint this was? Were they just using the same stuff as everybody else but much thicker (this was an era when Toyota was over-engineering their products to break into foreign markets)?
Is it possable to spray 2 PAK over a car prepared in acrylic primmer, spray putty etc. this would be for a show car with limmited driving and garaged most of its life?
