Hi Guys.

The only Holden 6s with steel cranks were Grey motors and Red motors prior to April 1967. After that the 186 X2, 186 S and 186 XU-1 were also fitted with a steel crank.

Cast Crank Performance:

Peter Brock won Bathurst in a 202 XU-1 which had a cast crank, they can't be that bad.

Identifying a Steel Crank:

If you have them side by side, the steel crank has somewhat rounded edges and the cast crank has more square edges. End of submission by Circlotron.
