Holdenpaedia Page Creation and Editing:

First we have to describe the terms we will use in this page.

Terms:

URL:

An Universal Resource Locator (URL) is another name for the text you type to get to a web page.An example of an URL is www.oldholden.com

Browser:

An example of a browser is Windows Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla.

Browser Window:

A browser window is another name for where you type www.oldholden.com to get to Old Holden.

How to Create a New Holdenpaedia Page:

1. Keep this page open. We will call this the 1st window. Open a 2nd copy of your browser by going to your desktop and clicking on your browser again. (On Windows XP this can be done by hitting the Windows key and D at the same time.) We will call this the 2nd window.2. To create a new Holdenpaedia Page called My Old Holden Page,type the URL you created into your 2nd browser windowYour new URL might look like this.http://www.oldholden.com/possible/index.php/My_Old_Holden_PageNote that you have to convert any spaces in the page name to _ (underscores).If you don't have any spaces in the name NoSpaces then just typehttp://www.oldholden.com/possible/index.php/NoSpaces3. Once this is done a new page will open. You will see that the page is called My Old Holden Page and that your URLis in the browser window.3. Click Edit at the top of the new page. The editor will open.4. In the first pane open http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/New_Old_Holden_Page.5. Click on the Edit tab in the 1st window.6. Using the mouse, copy everything in the 1st window and paste it into your new window.7. In the 1st window click on Save Page (below). The page will return with a small empty window and some squiggly text above the window. The squiggly text is there for security and to force a human to type the secret word in. This prevents automated hacking from destroying the page. Type the word into the empty window and hit Enter. 8. Change the heading(s) in your new window and add your text to the appropriate fields9. When the text is in and you are happy with the new page, click on Save Page (below). The page will return with a small empty window and some squiggly text above the window. The squiggly text is there for security and to force a human to type the secret word in. This prevents automated hacking from destroying the page. Type the word into the empty window and hit Enter.

How to Edit (make changes to) an Existing Holdenpaedia Page:

1. Browse to the page you want to edit.2. Select the Edit top at the top of the page.3. Once the page opens type in the text you want to change, remove or add.4. Click Save. The page will come back with some squiggly text. This is done to force human intervention and is necessary toprevent automated hacking of the H page. Type the squiggly text into the blank field and press enter.5. When the text is in and you are happy with it click on Save Page (below). The page will return with a small empty window and some squiggly text above the window. The squiggly text is there for security and to force a human to type the secret word in. This prevents automated hacking from destroying the page. Type the word into the empty window and hit Enter.

How to Add an Image to a Holdenpaedia Page:

1. If you want to upload MyImage.jpg to Holdenpaedia, click on Upload File to the left of this page. Follow the prompts and upload your image.2. Click on Recent Changes to the left of this page and copy the text.3.Open http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/New_Old_Holden_Page.4.Copy the entire Image line and paste it into your document.5.Change the name of the file (photo.jpg) to match your photo (myphoto.jpg). There must be no space between .jpg and | and thumbnail and | otherwise the image will not display.Alternatively click on the tree icon at the top of the page and follow the add image prompts.6. When the text is in and you are happy with it click on Save Page (below). The page will return with a small empty window and some squiggly text above the window. The squiggly text is there for security and to force a human to type the secret word in. This prevents automated hacking from destroying the page. Type the word into the empty window and hit Enter.

How to Make the Index Appear on Your Page:

The index is automatically generated at the top of the page once these rules are observed.1.You add 2 "equal" signs to each side of your main heading with a colon at the end of the last word.2. You add 3 equal signs to each side of a subheading with a colon after the last word.3. There must be at least 3 headings before an index will appear.
