==Grey Motor Cracked Head:==Scott4571 has provided great shots about the Cylinder Head failure in the 138 cu in engine from his EJ Holden Wagon.See the link section for further info.

===Causes:===The cooling system should always be filled with corrosion inhibiting coolant of some type. If the car is used in areas where the temperature goes sub-zero, glycol must be used.

===Water:===Using pure water should only be done to get you home. As soon as possible afterwards the cooling system must be drained and filled with the recommended coolant.

===Owner's Manual:===

Always refer to the owner's handbook for full details of the types of coolant to be used.

===Valve Guides and Valve Seats:===Grey motors used steel valve guides and steel seats. With the advent of the red engines, GMH abandoned using steel valve guides and valve seats. They cut these directly into the cast iron in the head. They also used hydraulic valve lifters.

There is some evidence that this reduced the incidence of cylinder heads cracking when the proper coolant had been used since the heads were no longer made using  disimilar metals.
