Distributor Re-Graphing:

Self Help:

The 3 things you can do for yourself are ... 1. Change the initial setting by simply rotating the Distributor (easy to do).
2. Changing the Vacuum Advance Module (the next easy thing to do).
3. Changing the Centrifugal Advance Springs (harder to do because you have to remove the Magnetic Trigger to change them).

Not Enough Advance:

If your problem is not enough advance ...
1. Rotate the Distributor Body Anti-Clockwise a small amount.
2. Fit a Vacuum Advance Module with a larger number (from 212 to 214).
3. Fit lighter Balance Weight Springs.

Too Much Advance:

If your problem is too much advance ...
1. Rotate the Distributor Body Clockwise a small amount.
2. Fit a Vacuum Advance Module with a smaller number (from 214 to 212).
3. Fit heavier Balance Weight Springs.

Balance Weight Springs:

Don't forget, the Secondary Balance Weight Spring is noticeably heavier than the Primary Spring.
The Secondary Balance Weight Spring is supposed to be a loose fit to allow it to gradually take effect so don't make any bends to anything.
Balance Weights in a Bosch HEI Distributor. The Primary Spring is the lower one in the Photo. It is weaker and is an intentional good fit. The Secondary Spring is the higher one in the Photo. It is stronger and is an intentional poor fit to allow it to gradually take effect so don't go bending anything. Photo by Jacks. Click to Enlargen.
