138 Red Motor:

138 Cubic Inches Displacement
These engines were fitted to LC & LJ Toranas. The car carried a 2250 badge, referring to the 2262cc capacity. Early LC ones used adjustable rocker gear the same as 161 engines optionally fitted.
LJ examples used the non-adjustable hydraulic lifter valve gear that was used in 202 engines and had tapered Seat Spark Plugs.

Bore And Stroke:

Bore 3.125"
Russell Payne's Shed
All the red sixes have the same 3.00" stroke except the 201, 202 and 3.3 which have a 3.25" stroke. Blue and black 3.3's also have a 3.25" stroke.

Standard Equipment:

The Red 138 was standard equipment for LC & LJ Torana 6-cyl models. It was badged 2250. Same capacity as FB, EK & EJ Grey Motor, but nothing in common. Dr Terry

Main Bearings:

138 red, 149, 161, 173, 179, 161 and 186 Engines have Main Bearing journals the same size. Late 173, all 202's, 2850's and all red, blue and black 3.3's use the larger Main Bearings. All red, blue and black Sixes have the same size Big End Journals.

Holden 173 Engine disembled, typical of all Red 6 Engines. Note the Rockers are Adjustable because it is a 149 Head. Standard 173 Heads use Non-Adjustable Rockers. Image by Bubsy. Click to Enlargen.
